Reading the brilliant 'Mythology of the British Isles' by Geoffrey Ashe just fueled my imagination and I became fascinated by the legends surrounding Vortigern. 

I did a lot of research - there are few facts and much speculation - perfect for a writer as the legend is so big. 

A British King inviting Saxons to help him in battle. 

Looking back from the comfort of the new Millenium it seems such an insane thing to have done.

Would the whole history of England have been different if he had not made that momentous decision - or were they coming anyway?
